Sr. Judy Callahan, BVM
Board Member & FORMER center VOLUNTEER

Sr. Judy Callahan represents the BVM Community which has contributed personnel and significant financial support ever since the mission’s early days. Sr. Judy worked at the Center for five years (1982-87 and 2005-2006), where she formed a strong commitment to the poor working family members at the mission. She has personally witnessed the changes in the lives of her former Center students and others, and hopes that the Center’s mission can continue to reduce poverty in Quito through value-based education for entire families.

Sr. Judy received her BA in French and Education from Mundelein College in Chicago, IL, her MA in Elementary Education Administration from USCSF in Daly City, CA, and her MA in Religious Studies with an emphasis in Hispanic Ministry at Loyola University in Chicago, IL.

A former teacher/administrator in elementary education for 25 years, she later served in Hispanic Ministry for 16 years in the Diocese of Joliet; for four years as Director of Hispanic Ministry, Archdiocese of Dubuque; and one year as Hispanic ministry coordinator at St. Patrick Church in Dubuque, IA.

Presently retired, she now volunteers at Mt. Carmel Motherhouse, serves on various committees, and interprets for Hispanics at the local medical, legal and social agencies in the Dubuque area.
